Four arrested in connection to fatal Leamington fire

Ontario Provincial Police say four people have been charged following a fire earlier this month that claimed one life.

It happened in the late evening hours of Friday, July 8. Officers from the Leamington OPP and crews from the Leamington Fire Department responded to a residence on Erie Street South. They found one person dead inside. The deceased person's identity has not been confirmed.

Police made four arrests on Wednesday in connection with the investigation. A 42-year-old, a 30-year-old, and a 17-year-old youth are each charged with breach of undertaking and obstructing a police officer. The 17-year-old is not being identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A 65-year-old Windsor man was also charged with obstructing a police officer.

The three accused adults have been released and will have a chance to respond to the charges in a Windsor court on September 7. The youth was released with a pending September court date.

"The Essex County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, continues to assist the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and members from the office of the Ontario Fire Marshall with the investigation," said OPP Constable Steven Duguay.

Police are asking anyone in the area of Erie Street South and Robson Road, between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on July 8, or who may have pertinent security camera or dashcam footage to share, to give the OPP a call at 1-888-310-1122.

Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
