Public invited to opening ceremonies of Police-Fire Games

The 2022 Can-Am Police-Fire Games get underway Tuesday.

Over 600 athletes are registered to compete in the various events being held throughout the city and the county over the next six days. Events include road races, golf, archery, and the Fire Fit event.

"It's got the big tower and you'll see the firefighters climbing up the tower in full gear and dropping canisters and pulling up hoses," said Michael Chantler, organizing committee member. "We'll have some grandstands set up for that knowing we'll get a good size crowd for that on Saturday."

Opening ceremonies take place Tuesday night at the Riverfront Festival Plaza. The event is free to attend and open to the general public. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. but the official program doesn't get underway until 6 p.m.

"We've got a couple great bands, including the Queen Tribute that is a great show and there will be some multicultural booths offering a variety of foods and we, of course, have a beverage tent," said Chantler. "It's all on the waterfront and it will culminate with some amazing fireworks shot out over the Detroit River and skyline."
