Windsor couple cashes in with $100K Encore win

Putting down a little something extra on a lottery ticket paid off for a Windsor couple.

Joel Wells and Patricia Becket matched the last six out of seven Encore numbers in order on their July 19 Lotto MAX ticket, winning the game's second prize of $100,000. They got themselves an additional $4 on another Encore selection for a total win of $100,004.

The pair stopped by the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto recently to claim their prize. Wells said the win was a long time coming.

"We've been playing the lottery forever, almost 30 years," said Wells.

The winning ticket was bought at a Hasty Market store on Tecumseh Road in Windsor.

The couple plan to use the money to pay off some bills and take a vacation.

Most OLG games come with the optional Encore feature, which is activated when the player pays an extra loonie. There are 22 winning combinations, with prizes ranging from $2 to $1-million for matching all seven Encore digits in a row.
