Windsor mayoral candidate Chris Holt says if elected, he will focus on implementing the Vision Zero action plan to improve road safety for everyone in the city.
The Vision Zero philosophy encourages design changes to the road network to make it safer and more equitable for all road users. The guidelines include reducing the speed limit on city streets, increasing winter road maintenance, and improving cycling infrastructure.
Holt says these initiatives need to be considered every time a road is redesigned.
"We know what we have to do to provide a level of safety and security to all road users, we just need the political will to do it. We need a mayor in that chair that actually drives the agenda, and really makes the vast majority of our citizens happy that they can be safe on our roads," said Holt.
Windsor City Council endorsed the Vision Zero Policy in February 2020. Since then, a task force has been developing an action plan to implement the policy.
The municipal election is on October 24, 2022.
Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Drew Dilkens, Matthew Giancola, Ernie Lamont, and Louis Vaupotic are also running to be the next mayor of Windsor.
