UPDATE: Windsor police arrest suspect following downtown stabbing

A suspect has been arrested following an alleged stabbing incident in downtown Windsor.

Police were called to the scene on Ouellette Avenue and University Avenue just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

They say that the victim and the suspect, believed to be known to each other, engaged in a physical altercation. The suspect retreated from the altercation briefly before returning to the victim and stabbing him.

Police say the suspect fled the scene directly afterward and headed west on University Avenue toward Pelissier Street, then north on Pelissier Street towards Chatham Street west.

The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

At around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, members of the Windsor Police Service Major Crime Unit found and arrested the suspect in the 800 block of Ouellette Avenue.

A 34-year-old man from Windsor is in custody and is expected to appear in court to answer to a charge of attempted murder.
