Tecumseh begins community improvement initiative

Residents in Tecumseh may have already noticed some changes in the downtown core.

The Town is moving forward with improvements noted in its Main Street Community Improvement Plan (CIP), which was approved some time ago by Tecumseh Town Council. The work begun this week is in the Tecumseh Road East and Lesperance Road area, which is home to some of Tecumseh's historic structures.

Pavement markings were completed this week that will introduce turn lanes and designated on-street parking between Shawnee Road, east to Bedell Street.

When this project is completed, there will be 64 new on-street parking spaces for a total of 126 parking spaces, including off-street parking.

"We are excited to take this next step in the transformation of our historic downtown as business and property developers continue to rebuild and revitalize this area as a great space for people to gather and live in the heart of our community," said Mayor Gary McNamara in a media release.

The CIP was first conceived in 2016 with traffic analysis. Since then, public consultations were held to allow residents to provide input.

Complete information about the CIP can be found on the Town of Tecumseh's official website.
