Fertility treatment options expanding locally

Windsor-Essex residents looking to grow their families through reproductive therapies now have more options close to home.

The Victory Reproductive Care Clinic is now getting $1.5 million in annual funding to offer in vitro fertilization services.

The Ontario government expanded access to these services in 2015 offering funding to cover one IVF cycle per eligible patient in a lifetime.

However, the VRC clinic was not supported through this funding. This left Windsor patients with limited options, either travelling to the Greater Toronto Area for the services or paying out of pocket to have it close to home.

“Our clinic is grateful to the Government of Ontario for hearing us out and for providing the funding to increase options for patients in need of fertility treatments in Windsor-Essex. In the overall Ministry of Health budget, this is a small sum, but to families in our region in need of services, this is a life-altering investment.” Dr. Rahi Victory, Infertility Specialist.

With the funding awarded, the clinic will be able to offer IVF treatments to around 135 local families in Windsor and Essex County.

“Ontario is one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family. This investment from the province, together with the expertise of the Victory Reproductive Care Clinic, will help families in Windsor-Essex achieve that reality. This funding will allow local families to receive this life-altering treatment closer to home,” said Minister of Health Sylvia Jones.

Jones visited the VRC Clinic Monday afternoon to announce this funding allotment.
