TWEPI finds its happy place with successful campaign

Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island's My Happy Place Campaign performed better than expected.

It offered a digital pass at 110 different attractions and businesses to encourage locals and visitors to explore the region and collect rewards.

Once the user visited 15 spots, they got a $25 gift card to a local business, but they could collect more gift cards if they checked in at more places.

"Our campaign surpassed expectations," said CEO Gordon Orr. "Injecting $30,000 worth of spending back into our tourism and hospitality industry."

The campaign started July 18 and was expected to run until October 31 or whenever the agency gave away $10,000 in gift cards. It ran out much earlier than expected, bought another $20,000 in cards, and wrapped up on September 19.

More than 1,900 people registered for the program and checked in more than 16,600 times at participating businesses.
