Vandalism reported at four Tecumseh park washrooms

Additional security is in place after vandals hit four park washrooms in the Town of Tecumseh.

Few details have been released, but Ontario Provincial Police are looking into vandalism at the bathrooms in Weston Park, Optimist Park, Lakewood Park and McAuliffe Park.

The news has angered and disappointed Mayor Gary McNamara.

"I am extremely frustrated and disappointed by the actions of the individuals who did this," said McNamara. "They have disrespected our beautiful parks, our residents, and taxpayer dollars. If the damage continues, we have no choice but to close all the washrooms down for the remainder of the fall season. The senseless vandalism has reduced access to the beautiful facilities that many people in our community use every day."

While this is typically the time of year when park washrooms are closed for the season, the Town has closed the facilities at Weston Park and Optimist Park, with a portable toilet available.

At Lakewood Park, McAuliffe Park, and Lacasse Park, the washrooms will be closed nightly at 6 p.m.

The Essex County OPP is investigating. Anyone with information or dashcam footage to share is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
