Downtown Farmers Market extended to December

Visitors to the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market will continue to enjoy it throughout the fall.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) announced Tuesday that it has extended the popular market into December.

Starting this Saturday, and running each week through December 10, the market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate the estimated 2,500 people the market attracts each weekend.

"We’re averaging over 40 vendors each week for the fall," said market manager Steve Green. "Every week is a celebration of the market’s success, which continues to see more and more visitors, more and more applause from residents, visitors and shopkeepers."

Acting DWBIA Chair Pat Papadeas said the extension of the event's season is proof of its contributions to the downtown economy.

"Increasing the season to 37 weeks is a testament to the remarkable effect this market has on the community in the core," said Papadeas. "With weekly live entertainment featuring local artists and musicians, a wealth of digital programming, like the very popular Chef’s Table and Kids’ Corner, and certainly access to locally produced goods, it is not surprising at all that the community is in such support of a weekly event such as the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market. I can think of few ways that would better bring a community together."

The market is on Pelissier Street and Maiden Lane. The street is blocked off each Saturday morning between Wyandotte Street West and University Avenue West.

Complete information about the market's autumn offerings can be found on its official website.
