Windsor-Essex votes

On Monday, thousands of residents across Windsor and Essex County will vote in the municipal election.

The polls open at 10 a.m., and voters have until 8 p.m. to vote for candidates for mayor and, in most municipalities, ward councillor. Other municipalities, like Amherstburg, vote for councillors at large.

Most people should have received their voter information card telling them where their polling station is, but you can vote without one.

In Windsor, those without a voter information card can call 311 or use the online Voting Station Locator to find out where to cast their ballot.

Voters are encouraged to bring that card with them, but if you don't, you can still use two forms of government identification like a driver's license, health card, or passport, and proof of address. A bill addressed to your home will suffice.

In Lakeshore, eligible voters can cast their ballots at 12 polling stations throughout the municipality. The location of your station is on your voter information card, but you can also refer to the Voting Place Map online or call 619-728-2700 ext. 0.

"Given this is the first in-person voting hosted by the Municipality of Lakeshore in over 20 years, wait times are difficult to predict," warned Corporate Leader of Strategic and Legal Affairs, Kristen Newman. "We're asking everyone to ensure they have ample time to participate in this important democratic process."

Essex is hosting one voting location for each ward. In Ward 1, voters can go to the Shaheen Community Room at the Essex Centre Sports Complex. The McGregor Community Centre is the location of the polling station in Ward 2. Ward 3 voters need to go to the Colchester Community Centre, while in Ward 4, voters can drop by the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre.

There is also special voting for long-term care residents at the Harrowood Senior Community Living and Iler Lodge.

Tecumseh voters can vote from home. The Town is conducting its election through telephone and online voting.

LaSalle is also offering online and telephone voting. The online voting portal and the telephone number are listed on the front of the Voter Information Letter.  Votes can be cast until 8 p.m. on Monday.

Amherstburg residents can find their voting locations on their voter information card. Residents in that municipality will also vote on whether to implement a ward system for the next election in 2026.

There are two polling stations in Kingsville where residents can drop off their mail-in ballot, Ridgeview Hall at 124 Fox Street, Cottam, and the Unico Centre at 37 Beech Street in Kingsville.

In Leamington, residents are using the vote-by-mail system.

Voters must be 18 and reside in the community where they will cast their ballot.

In some municipalities across the region, some positions have already been decided. In Tecumseh and LaSalle, Gary McNamara and Chrystal Meloche were acclaimed as Mayor when no one challenged them.

Other municipalities will have a new mayor by the end of the night. Kingsville will have a new one after Nelson Santos resigned earlier this year, and Amherstburg's Aldo DiCarlo has decided not to run for re-election, leaving his seat up for grabs.

WindsorNewsToday.ca will have reporters across the region gathering the results. For immediate results, visit us online, and for updates twice an hour, listen to Country 95.9 or MIX 96.7 starting when the polls close at 8 p.m.
