Search for new police chief ongoing

The search for the new Windsor Chief of Police should wrap up by the end of the month.

Windsor Police Service Board Chair Mayor Drew Dilkens indicated the hiring committee has made a shortlist and is currently interviewing candidates.

"We're excited about the process. We did a nationwide search, we've narrowed the field down and we'll undertake second-round interviews and hopefully, we can make a determination after that," said Dilkens.

Dilkens said a number of internal and external candidates applied for the role.

"I think it's really important for the next chief to have good communication skills and be able to interface with a broad section of the community and of course lead a complex organization, the Windsor Police Service is an organization of over 600 employees," said Dilkens.

Police Chief Pam Mizuno retired in March of 2022. Jason Bellaire has been in the position of Acting Chief since April 1.
