Black cats for Black Friday

When you think about Black Friday shopping deals, you probably think about things like electronics, appliances and clothing, not cats.

Instead of a shiny black television, the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society (WECHS) is hoping you'll take home a little black cat on Black Friday.

Black cats and kittens are typically the last cats to be adopted according to the WECHS. In an effort to ensure all black cats get a home this holiday season, the WECHS has announced it is waiving all adoption fees on predominately black cats and kittens.

"While "kitten season" may be over, black cats and kittens often have the hardest time finding homes, so this massive sale will give them a “paw up” with adopters," a release from the humane society read.

All cats included in the adoption event are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and treated for parasites.

As of Thursday evening, WECHS's website featured around 25 predominately black cats and kittens, however staff at the humane will determine which animals qualify.

Those willing to open their heart and home to a cat in need can fill out an application online. The promotion ends at 11:59 p.m. Friday. You can also attend the shelter in person at 1375 Provincial Road in Windsor between 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Only applications submitted on Black Friday will qualify for waived adoption fees on eligible cats. The shelter said it reserves the right to decline any application.
