Windsor prof to be inducted into Order of Canada

When the Governor General invests 50 new appointees into the Order of Canada, Mary Simon will welcome a Windsorite among them.

Doctor Hoda ElMaraghy is a professor of industrial engineering at the University of Windsor.

She is among 36 new Members who will be given one of Canada's highest honours during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Wednesday.

Simon will also invest 14 Officers.

ElMaraghy is a founding director of the university's Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Centre. She is also the first woman in Canada to get a PhD in mechanical engineering and the first Dean of Engineering.

In 2015, she was inducted into the Order of Ontario.

Order of Canada appointments recognizes achievements at three levels, Companion, Officer, and Member. Officers and Members may be elevated within the Order.
