New drop-in centre set to open in Leamington

A Windsor group that helps the less fortunate is opening a new drop-in centre in Leamington.

Feeding Windsor Essex said the pilot project at 58 Erie Street South between Setterington Street and Marlborough Street East will be open seven days a week for those 16 and older who want a warm, safe place between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The drop-in centre, expected to open in the new year, will also offer food, resources, and supplies for those who need them.

The group's outreach program, Street Angels, will operate the centre.

The organization has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise cash for the project but will accept donations through its website.

"It's by the community for the community," said Director of Outreach Services Merissa Mills. "We are looking for local volunteers to help out at the centre."

Those interested in volunteering can contact Street Angels at streetangelswindsor@gmail.com or by calling 519-997-1556.

Through the pilot project, the group will gather data on those who use the drop-in centre to create a permanent program.

Feeding Windsor Essex has served the city and county for the past nine years.
