Now that the gifts have been opened, many people in Windsor-Essex are headed for a relaxing Boxing Week.
Many will hit the stores on Monday looking for post-Christmas bargains, but others will be enjoying the day off, as Boxing Day is a statutory holiday.All federal, provincial, and municipal offices will be closed at some point during the week. For example, the City of Windsor's offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Please contact your municipality for more information, as closure dates vary between communities.
There will be no mail delivery on Monday. All Service Ontario branches are closed Monday, though some transactions can be performed online.
Select Beer Store locations will be open on Boxing Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, and all outlets resume normal hours Tuesday. Selected LCBO outlets are also open on Monday.
Devonshire Mall is open on Boxing Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tecumseh Mall is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All branches of the Windsor Public Library are closed Monday, then open regular hours Tuesday through Saturday.
Essex County Library branches will be closed Monday through Wednesday this week, then open regular hours Thursday and Friday.
In the city of Windsor, residential garbage collection will not take place Monday and be delayed by one day this week. Commercial pickup and recycling will take place as usual. Christmas tree pickup has been scheduled for the week of January 17, 2023, for residents in zone A, and the week of January 24 for those in zone B. Check your collection schedule for more details.
The city's public drop-off and hazmat disposal depots are closed Monday and Tuesday, but open regular hours Wednesday through Saturday.
The 311 Call Centre is closed Monday, and Tuesday. The 211 call centre will operate 24/7 as usual.
All Windsor community centres and customer care branches are closed on Boxing Day. Winter programming is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2023.
The city's Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H-4) at Windsor Water World will be open each day from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park is open Monday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and will be open every day during those hours through the remainder of the holiday break for schools.
The City of Windsor is offering a Winter Break camp, running from December 27 to 30, and again from January 2 to 6, 2023, at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, the Forest Glade Community Centre, and the Gino and Liz Marcus Community Complex. There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Boxing Day. Street parking will be free. Garages and service lots will charge for parking as usual. The parking enforcement payment office will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
Transit Windsor will run on modified schedules. Check the website for specific information. The tunnel bus to Detroit is also operating during the holiday break.
The Francois Baby House is closed Monday, but open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday. The Chimczuk Museum is also closed Monday, then open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
