A South Korean manufacturing company is going to build a new $60 million facility in Windsor, creating 300 new jobs.
Dongshin Motech Ltd. manufactures battery casings which will be used by NextStar Energy at the electric vehicle battery plant.
"We've had very strong relationship with LG Energy Solutions so we wanted to continue that strong relationship with LG Energy Solution in Windsor and at the same time we are really appreciating the support that we are getting from the City of Windsor," said CEO Choon Woo Lim, through a translator.
Construction on the plant is expected to get underway this year and be complete by the fall of 2023.
It will be constructed on 12 acres of land currently owned by the City of Windsor. Mayor Drew Dilkens says they have reached an agreement at competitive commercial rates for the lease of the property.
The plant will supply parts to LG Energy Solutions by May 2024.
Dilkens said this is expected to be the first of many companies to settle here to establish the supply chain for the NextStar Energy plant.
"This is the first of many to come and it's a significant investment. At the end of the day, this will end up being closer to a $90 million investment and hiring 300 people," said Dilkens.
