Pacifica, Grand Caravan sales soar in fourth-quarter 2022

Sales of Windsor-built products have helped fuel fourth-quarter increases for Stellantis Canada.

The automaker, which owns the Chrysler and Dodge brands, released its Canadian sales figures for the final quarter of 2022 on Wednesday. The Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Grand Caravan, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid accounted for a quarterly sales increase of 187 per cent to remain Canada's top-selling line of minivans.

Overall, sales of Stellantis brands were down two per cent in the quarter compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. However, total sales for 2022 finished up by five per cent from the year before.

"We’re reporting a solid year of sales growth in 2022," said FCA Canada President and CEO David Buckingham. "Looking forward, we have a strong product plan for 2023, including three PHEVs, plus more on the way as outlined in our Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. Combine all of that with once-in-a-generation investment announcements for our Canadian operations totalling over $8-billion, and 2022 will be remembered as a hallmark year."

A total of 1,703 Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid models were sold in Canada during the fourth quarter. Compared to just 581 during the same quarter last year, that accounts for a whopping 193 per cent rise. For all of 2022, sales of the Pacifica were up 71 per cent to a total of 7,692 vehicles.

The Windsor-built Grand Caravan also had a strong fourth quarter in the showroom, with 814 units sold for a 174 per cent year-to-year increase. In 2022 overall, sales were up 36 per cent to 3,693 vehicles.

Sales of the Dodge Ram pickup trucks went up six per cent for all of 2022, with the Ram's P/U line, the automaker's best-selling Canadian vehicle, selling 75,740 units.

Sales of Jeep's flagship model, the Wrangler, went up 20 per cent for all of 2022, and fourth quarter sales up 27 per cent from 2021.
