Labour Ministry looking into complaint at Windsor Salt

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has confirmed it is looking into a health and safety complaint involving a Windsor business.

A ministry spokesperson told WindsorNewsToday.ca Thursday afternoon that the ministry had received a complaint at the Windsor Salt Mine.

An inspector has been assigned to investigate the complaint.

The Windsor Salt Mine's Windsor facility is currently involved in a labour dispute, as 250 employees, represented by Unifor Locals 240 and 1959, walked off the job three weeks ago.

"A ministry mediator has been assigned and remains available to assist the parties at the bargaining table," said the ministry in a media release. "We encourage the employer and the union to make every effort to resolve their differences at the bargaining table."

No information on exactly what happened was disclosed, and the Labour Ministry said it won't comment further as the investigation is ongoing.
