GoFundMe set up for LaSalle family devastated by fire

A GoFundMe campaign has raised $9,000 for a LaSalle family that lost everything in a house fire last Thursday morning.

Kaitlin Wall organized it over the weekend to raise $50,000.

"This fire went through the home very quickly, and unfortunately, the family has lost everything, including one of their two beloved dogs," wrote Wall. "They are in need of the basic things, like clothing, shoes, [and] coats."

The fire on River Avenue started before 8 p.m. in the garage. The homeowner and his daughter escaped with one of the family's dogs.

When LaSalle Fire Chief Ed Thiessen arrived, the flames had spread to the house.

"We put out the fire outside of the building just because it was unsafe to do an interior attack," he said. "Their entire home is a write-off."

Fire officials believe explosions ignited when aerosol cans in the garage heated up.

A home next door was also damaged.

The cost of the damage will be at least $700,000.
