UPDATE: Construction causes widespread internet outage for Cogeco customers

Cogeco customers in the region were without internet part of Tuesday after a fibre cable was accidentally cut in a construction area between Essex and Leamington.

Customers in Essex, Leamington, Kingsville, LaSalle, and Windsor were all been impacted.

Shortly after the outage was detected, Cogeco indicated technicians were sent to complete repairs. It was initially estimated service would return progressively within 4 to 6 hours to customers.

In an update provided to WindsorNewsToday.ca just before 7:30 p.m., A Cogeco spokesperson said teams have completed repairs and service is progressively returning to customers impacted by the outage.

"We are letting our customers know that they should try resetting their modem if they are still without Internet service, or contact us," read a statement from the company's communications manager Kristen Curry.

To reset the modem, customers are told to use a small pin to press and hold the reset button on the back of the modem for three seconds. The modern should then begin to cycle and service should return within five minutes of rebooting the device.
