Indiana company to open new plant in Windsor-Essex

A new plant employing as many as 50 workers hopes to start production in the region as early as this fall.

Convoy Technologies provides the commercial vehicle industry with safety equipment like cameras, recording equipment, and sensors.

"If the pandemic has taught us one thing, it is that having control over your supply chain is the key to getting products to your customers quickly and reliably," said Convoy President Ron Harker. "Sourcing parts closer to home and assembling them in North America will ultimately give us shorter, more predictable lead times."

That will help it contain costs and pass those savings on to its customers.

Vice-President of Investment Attraction and Strategic Initiatives at Invest WindsorEssex Jon Goncalves said the company is negotiating to lease factory space in the region. He wouldn't say where but said Convoy Technologies is interested in two locations.

The Invest WindsorEssex Investment Attraction Team started working with the company last September, providing labour cost analysis, advice on site selection, and introductions at the University of Windsor and St. Clair College.

The company plans to maintain its distribution centre in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
