LaSalle police make arrest at RIDE checkpoint

LaSalle police say a driver has been arrested after being stopped at a checkpoint Wednesday night.

Officers were conducting a series of R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs at various locations across the municipality when they questioned a 43-year-old man. When officers determined the driver might be impaired, he was taken into custody. His licence and vehicle were seized.

The driver is charged with driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood. The charge has not been proven in court.

Police interviewed a total of 175 drivers and conducted three more roadside alcohol tests, with those drivers passing.

Officers did give out citations for vehicle infractions, including expired licence plates, driver licence issues, disobeying stop signs, speeding, and not having a child properly secured with a seatbelt.

"The LaSalle Police will continue to educate and inform the public of the consequences of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs and will conduct R.I.D.E. Programs throughout the year to help prevent and stop impaired driving," said Senior Constable Justin Pare.

Police have once again urged drivers to arrange transportation if they drink or designate a driver.
