Stellantis minivan sales down in first quarter of 2023

Sales of minivans built in Windsor were part of a declining trend for Stellantis in the first quarter of this year.

FCA Canada released its first-quarter sales figures on Monday, reporting an overall six per cent drop from quarter one of 2022.

While sales of individual models were mixed, the automaker said Canadian sales of the Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Chrysler Grand Caravan were down, with the Pacifica off by 40 per cent, and the Grand Caravan down by 51 per cent.

There was some good news with the sales report, with sales of Stellantis' PHEV models the highest among plug-ins in Canada.

"As we execute the company’s Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, we’re encouraged by our continued leadership in PHEV sales," said Stellantis Canada President Jason Stoicevich. "At the same time, despite the industry’s ongoing global challenges, vehicles like the class-leading Ram 1500, Wagoneer, and Dodge Durango showed double-digit increases for the quarter and continue to resonate in hard-fought segments."

The Jeep Wagoneer had a 36 per cent increase year-to-year. The basic Jeep Cherokee model was up by 60 per cent, while the Grand Cherokee L line was up 62 per cent.

The Dodge Durango was up 43 per cent, the Ram pickup truck saw a ten per cent increase, and the Dodge ProMaster van saw sales jump by 253 per cent since the same period of 2022.
