A list of electric vehicles, that are now eligible for a U.S. income tax credit, includes a Windsor-built minivan.
The Chrysler Pacifica, built at Stellantis' Windsor Assembly Plant, has been placed on a list of vehicles that are eligible for a $7,500 tax credit for all-electric, plug-in, and fuel-cell vehicles. The tax credit took effect Tuesday and actually consists of two separate credits of $3,750 apiece.
"The qualifying factors for the credits are that a certain percentage of critical minerals used in the batteries, such as lithium, graphite, and cobalt, need to be mined or processed in the U.S," reported the Detroit Free Press Tuesday. "To get the other $3,750 credit, a certain percentage of the battery components need to be manufactured in North America."
The Pacifica PHEV is the only minivan on the list, which has been published by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
The other vehicles include the Chevrolet Bolt, Bolt EUV, Blazer, Equinox, and Silverado; the Ford E-Transit, Escape Plug-In Hybrid, F-150 Lightning, and Mustang Mach-E; the Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV and Wrangler PHEV; the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring and Corsair Grand Touring; and the Tesla Model-3 and Model-Y.
