UPDATE: Earth Day events across Windsor-Essex

If you and the family are looking for a way to celebrate Earth Day this weekend, there are events across the region.

Tecumseh

The Town of Tecumseh plans to plant trees, unveil new bat boxes, and hold a special presentation this Earth Day.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, the town will host Phil Roberts, an expert on birds of prey.

Drummers from the Caldwell First Nation will also perform.

Students from L'Essor Secondary School's STEAM program will install bat boxes in town parks while park staff and Lakeview Montessori students plant 100 trees in Lakewood South's naturalized area.

Windsor

Windsor's Earth Day event starts at 10 a.m. at Malden Park on Sunday.

More than 30 organizations will provide their expertise.

The public can enjoy environmental exhibits, including a presentation from Sciensational Snakes, live entertainment, games, and arts and crafts.

The Essex Conservation Authority invites the public to plant trees in Windsor on Sunday at Wyandotte Street East and Florence Avenue.

Opening ceremonies start at 10 a.m., and attendees should bring a shovel. Use the Ganatchio Trail system to arrive at the event location.

There's parking nearby the Riverside Kiwanis Park/Pump Track and McHugh Park parking lot.

Amherstburg

The Town of Amherstburg is hosting two tree-planting activities.

The first is on the grounds south of the Libro Centre, where pre-registered volunteers will plant 100 trees. The event starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The second is also at the Libro Centre from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Residents can choose one of five different tree species to plant at home. It's part of the PIROLI Map and Grow Program. The Piroli Group donated $10,000 towards the program this year.

Essex

The Rotary Club is holding a community clean-up competition against Kingsville.

Clean-up events are in Essex Centre, Harrow, Colchester, and McGregor from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until 11:30 a.m.

The meeting spots are at the Heritage Gardens Park Pavilion, Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre, McGregor Community Centre, and Colchester Playground.
