The Town of Essex has brought back a program encouraging random acts of kindness.
The Essex Police Services Board has launched the 2023 edition of the Good Samaritans Awards, designed to recognize residents for community service. Beginning this week, people can nominate others for an award presentation this fall.
"Following the success of the program last year, we are thrilled to once again reward random acts of kindness through the Good Samaritan program," said Mayor Sherry Bondy in a media release. "This unique program allows us to recognize our residents for their kind gestures that enhance and support our community."
Nominations are encouraged for those performing acts such as volunteering for a local organization, picking up trash from a public space, assisting someone with a disability, and others.
Suggestions will be taken through the spring and summer, with nominations closing on August 25. Five candidates will then be selected by the police board for awards, which consist of $100 plus a certificate signed by the mayor.
