The Amherstburg Canada Day run will look a little different this year with new organizers running the event.
Town Councillor Molly Allaire and her husband decided to take on the task when the previous organizer stepped away.
"We just wanted to step up and not see the tradition die," said Allaire.
The Walkers and Runners Across the County of Essex not-for-profit is also helping with the event. It will provide the chips for timing the event.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit three local Amherstburg charities, the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission, the Bryerswood Youth Optimist Camp, and Amherstburg Community Services.
A major sponsor of this year's event is Movati Athletic Gym. The gym will open up its washroom and shower facilities to racers on the day so they can clean up after the race and enjoy the rest of the day's events in town.
"It's not just the race, it's the beginning of our whole Canada Day festivities. So after that then you come to the town we have mighty machines, face painting, the traditional splash pad, everyone goes for ice cream and then we have our fireworks celebration at night," said Allaire.
Registration is open for the kids' dash and five-kilometre walk and run.
