The City of Windsor is looking at the future of curling at the Roseland Golf and Curling Club.
A public survey is online until May 25.
The city will also hold a public information meeting next Thursday, May 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roseland on Kennedy Drive West.
The survey focuses on curling. The city installed a six-sheet curling facility in 1979 after it bought the golf course seven years before.
The survey asks participants how long they've been curling and what location they would prefer if the city decides to move the facility. It lists four facilities. They are Forest Glade Arena, the WFCU Centre, Adie Knox Herman Arena, and Capri Pizzeria Complex.
Meanwhile, the committee for the Future of Curling in Windsor-Essex conducted it's own survey last December and found more than half of respondents had curled for over a decade.
Asked what amenities were important to them, the respondents said onsite parking, at least four sheets of high-quality ice surface, lounge space, a staffed bar, and enough space to host bonspiels. Almost half said they were not interested in playing at a hockey arena.
A previous survey in 2021 focused on golfing at Roseland and the clubhouse.
A report to city councillors will include the survey's results and feedback from next week's meeting.
City Councillor and member of the Roseland Board of Directors Kieran McKenzie said the report will look at more than curling. He said the clubhouse is aging.
"Over time there have been minor renovations, some repairs," he said. "As for the building, I think its fair to say, has provided service to the community beyond what we would have anticipated would be its normal and useful lifespan. There's some really serious challenges at Roseland currently with respect to the building."
He said one of those challenges is the aging mechanical system.
