Drivers in Windsor have more incentive to watch where they're parking. The City of Windsor is increasing parking fines starting on Tuesday.
The fines were approved in the 2023 municipal budget and are intended to improve safety in school zones, near fire hydrants and on fire routes.
"We've seen an increase in public safety issues in areas that should be among the safest and clearest areas we have," said Parking Services Coordinator Bill Kralovensky. "Hopefully, raising the fine amount will promote better compliance."
The fine for parking or stopping illegally in a school bus zone will increase from $45 to $80, as will the penalty for parking or stopping in a no-stopping zone. Previously, that fine was $50.
It'll cost drivers $80 if they're caught parking within three meters of a fire hydrant, and the fine for parking or stopping in a fire route will rise from $108 to $150.
