The SafePoint safe-consumption site saw 24 clients in its first 14 days of service.
The site opened to clients on Wednesday, April 26, and is now open seven days a week.
A report to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit board indicated the numbers match expectations for the first few weeks of operation.
The report provided two examples of positive interactions with clients. In one example, a client who had just been released from incarceration used the site to consume their substance. The client also received support in completing an application for the Ontario Disability Support Program.
In another interaction, a client set up an email account and filled out a housing application after using the site for safe consumption.
During its first month of operation, SafePoint staff continue to engage with businesses in the neighbourhood. No negative interactions were reported. Staff also continue to refine processes, policies, and procedures.
