Flex N Gate employees ratify contract on second try

A Windsor-Essex auto supplier finally has a new three-year collective bargaining agreement.

Employees at Flex N Gate's Lakeshore unit, represented by Unifor Local 195, ratified a new contract following a meeting over the Victoria Day weekend.

According to the union, the deal passed with 74.9 per cent of employees saying yes. It was the second attempt to ratify a deal for the 200 workers. A previous agreement was rejected over a week ago.

"The union is pleased with this three-year deal, especially for the employees on the wage grid by improving the growing and getting these employees to the full rate of pay," read a Facebook post by the union. "Congratulations to the bargaining committee for a job well done."

The post did not provide specifics but included wage increases, a signing bonus, RRSP increases, and an annual inflation bonus for each of the three years of the deal. Enhancements of other benefits were also included.

Flex N Gate is an Illinois-based multinational company with 73 facilities worldwide, including the one in Lakeshore.
