One Windsor-Essex beach remains under an advisory following weekly bacteria tests.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) conducted testing Monday on eight public beaches in the region, and it was determined that only Sandpoint Beach in east Windsor tested under a "code yellow", which means elevated levels of E. coli bacteria are present in the water.
Swimming in water with high levels of bacteria may increase the risk of digestive illness, though the health unit said bacteria levels fluctuate as conditions change.
"The bacterial counts listed reflect the conditions at the time of sampling," read the water testing page on the health unit's website. "Water quality can change from day to day depending on the weather conditions and lake levels. Although the beach might be open, we recommend not swimming if there was a recent heavy rainfall, within at least 48 hours, if the water is cloudy, or if you are unable to see your feet when in the water."
Under a "code yellow", the beach is open, but swimming is at your own risk.
The other seven public beaches in Windsor-Essex reported bacteria levels below the provincial standard and are fully open for use.
