With Canada Day falling on Saturday, two Windsor-Essex municipalities will give employees Friday off.
The Towns of Tecumseh and Amherstburg are the only regional communities to close their town halls Friday for the Canada Day holiday. The rest will observe the stat holiday on Monday.
"Payments may be dropped off at [Tecumseh] Town Hall using the secure drop box located beside the main entrance door," read a media release from the Town of Tecumseh. "Please ensure the information on the envelope is clearly outlined (name, address, tax roll number, application, and/or other identifying details to assist staff). As an alternative, the Town’s website also offers online services and payments."
Tecumseh Arena will be closed Friday except for previously-scheduled rentals. Tecumseh Transit will run on Friday but not on Saturday, July 1.
Amherstburg's Town Hall will also be closed Friday, but there will be a list of family-friendly activities Saturday to celebrate the nation's 156th birthday.
Activities begin at noon in Toddy Jones Park and the downtown core. From noon to 6 p.m., the park will feature face-painting, a splash pad, food trucks, recreational games, and first-responder vehicles on display. There will also be a dance performance and free Canada Day cupcakes, plus a dog show by the Border City Barkers.
After 6 p.m., there will be live music by the Adam Butcher Band and Buck Twenty. The evening will be capped with a 10 p.m. fireworks display over the Detroit River.
