OPP nab allegedly impaired driver on Hwy. 401

A 21-year-old Windsor man faces charges after the OPP pulled over a vehicle at a RIDE checkpoint on Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent.

Around 3 p.m. on Sunday, the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a checkpoint near the westbound ramp to Victoria Road when they stopped a vehicle and noticed an open container of alcohol inside.

The investigating officer also discovered the driver was violating a previous release order.

The charges are having an open container of liquor in a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a release order, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol content above zero.

The suspect was held for bail.

The OPP encourage the driving public to report impaired drivers by calling 911 or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
