A LaSalle elementary school will get its expansion after the province clears the school board to award the tender.
The Ontario Ministry of Education has authorized the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) to award the tender for the expansion of Legacy Oak Trail Public School.
The investment is $4.9-million.
"The funding for a new addition at Legacy Oak Trail Public School in LaSalle is great news for our community," said Essex MPP Anthony Leardi in a media release. "This investment will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead."
Once completed, the expansion will house an additional 167 students.
Erin Kelly, the retiring Director of Education at the GECDSB, said the funding is coming when some schools are seeing larger-than-expected growth.
"There’s a unique satisfaction in being able to promptly fulfill the needs of a growing community," said Kelly. "The expansion of Legacy Oak Trail Public School in LaSalle, which is only two years old, reinforces our commitment to providing good learning and working environments and we’re grateful to the Government of Ontario for their positive response to this project."
The Ministry of Education has promised $15-billion to build, expand, and improve schools across the province over ten years.
