Essex already seeking budget input from residents

Budget deliberations for 2024 are months away, but the Town of Essex is already seeking feedback from its residents.

The town's new online engagement tool will allow residents to participate in decision-making by helping councillors prioritize what matters most.

The input councillors receive through the tool will help them through the challenges of creating a budget that balances pressures like high inflation with maintaining service levels, prioritizing capital projects, and enhancing the quality of life in Essex.

Adhering to the mandate of the Municipal Act, the town is committed to producing a spending plan with no deficit or surplus.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity for the residents of the Town of Essex to actively contribute to our town's future," said Mayor Sherry Bondy. "Your feedback will significantly impact our budget decisions, and we encourage everyone to participate and make their voices heard."

The deadline to participate is September 1, 2023.

Along with the maintenance of parks, municipal facilities, and programs, the town is responsible for 324 km of roads, 97 bridges and culverts, 94 km of stormwater mains, 328 km of water mains, and 100 km of wastewater mains.
