G1 driver accused of crashing into pole, taking off

A novice driver has been accused of taking off from the scene of a crash that knocked down a hydro pole near downtown late Wednesday night.

According to Windsor police, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at around 11 p.m. on McKay Avenue between Riverside Drive West and University Drive West.

When police arrived, a vehicle with severe damage to it was located. The driver accused of crashing the car was located nearby and arrested for alleged impaired driving.

“Through investigation, officers learned that the suspect had also driven through a fence, a garden, and a pole before striking the tree,” read a release from Windsor police.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
