Reports of downbursts under investigation

The Northern Tornadoes Project is sending a team to investigate reports of downbursts in Kingsville, Harrow, Blenheim, and Pelee Island.

A downburst is a gust of air that hits the ground and spreads outwards rapidly.

Wednesday evening's severe thunderstorm caused power outages across the region, brought down tree branches and even toppled trees.

First responders rescued a dog on Queen Street in Kingsville after a tree fell on a home causing significant damage.

In Harrow, another home suffered the same fate.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch until 10 a.m. on Thursday after up to 25 mm of rain fell.

"People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas," said the authority.

More to come.
