Windsor chef to appear again on reality TV

A Windsor-based caterer is gearing up for another appearance on a TV reality show.

Philippe (Phil) Octavien, chef and owner of Black Magic Culinary Creations, will appear on The CW's summer series "Recipe For Disaster".

Octavien had previously appeared on Food Network's competition show "Fire Masters", where he demonstrated his expertise on the grill. He told Windsor's Country morning host Morgan Ryan he's ready for another appearance.

"I had an itch from the first show I did, 'Fire Masters', which was an amazing opportunity I had with Food Network Canada," said Octavien. "I applied for the show [Recipe for Disaster], they accepted me, and I wanted to put my best foot forward."

The premise is for contestants to prepare dishes under a specific theme, and contestants are challenged throughout the episode with unforeseen "disasters".

A broadcast date for Octavien's episode has not been announced, but the theme will be "Daycare Nightmare". He will appear with his wife Cory, as the show's producers invited the contestants to bring along an assistant.

"They're going to put you in intense situations. Disasters will happen all around you," said Octavien. "The purpose of the partner is that you're bringing someone that is your disaster, where they wanted someone who was close to you and knows you well but has very limited cooking ability."

"Recipe For Disaster" airs locally on WKBD-TV, channel 50, in Detroit, with back-to-back episodes running on Saturday nights through the summer. The CW is also available on some cable and satellite systems, with shows streamed online.
