One arrested, four at large following Windsor assault

Windsor police have arrested one person and are looking for four others following a weekend assault near the downtown core.

Police were called to a home on Church Street between Wyandotte Street West and Elliott Street West. When they arrived, they learned that two people were walking down a nearby street when they met five masked people in a black sedan, who allegedly threatened the pair with a weapon.

The suspects then followed the victims to the front porch of a home, when two of them got out of the car and sprayed the victims with a substance.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short time later. He is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, and unlicenced possession of a firearm. He is also charged with possessing a weapon while prohibited, possession while committing an offence, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, wearing a disguise to commit an offence, and failure to comply with a release order.

A 17-year-old boy, who is not identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act, is being sought on similar charges. The remaining three are at large.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or security camera footage to share should call Windsor police's Major Crimes Unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
