The Amherstburg Fire Department is still investigating but it looks like a lightning strike caused a massive fire in a workshop on County Road 18.
Fire Chief Bruce Montone said the fire department was called to the scene around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. With the efforts of all three stations and all staff, the blaze was extinguished.
The fire was contained to the workshop, the primary residence was not affected.
There were no injuries reported as the property owners were not at home at the time of the fire.
The investigation is still underway, but Montone expects damages to exceed $1-million. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office was notified of the blaze but will not be attending due to the nature of the fire.
Montone indicated they are working with Environment Canada to confirm the lightning strike.
