OPP probe suspicious fire, vehicle theft from Tecumseh residence

Provincial police are investigating a suspected arson and a vehicle stolen from the same property in Tecumseh last weekend.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County, officers were called to a home on Intersection Road twice in just under 48 hours for separate incidents.

Police initially responded to the residence at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday for a reported structure fire. Investigators learned that unknown individuals attended the address and allegedly set it ablaze intentionally. The incident has been deemed an act of arson by police.

On Monday, at around 5:15 p.m., officers were called to the home again for a report of a vehicle theft. The vehicle, a dark green 1980 Chevrolet Camaro with an Ontario licence plate of BMCM721, was removed from the home and loaded onto a white flatbed tow truck that did not have any other identifiable markings.

Investigators believe the two crimes are connected.
