City adds $1.5M in new pickleball and tennis courts

Enthusiasts of one of the fastest-growing pastimes will now have more options for playing in Windsor.

The City of Windsor has unveiled new pickleball and tennis courts at three parks, Fontainebleau, Captain Wilson, and Goldenwood. The four pickleball courts at Fontainebleau Park were christened Wednesday by Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 8 Councillor Gary Kaschak.

All three parks will receive a new tennis court, plus four pickleball courts. Captain Wilson Park is also adding a new basketball court.

The mayor said the new facilities cost $1,520,000 and are part of the City's commitment to providing outdoor amenities to residents and visitors.

"The one-and-a-half-million dollar investment is part of the 2023 budget, allocating $21-million to park improvements," said Dilkens. "We are committed to investing over $175-million in parks, arenas, and recreation over the next ten years."

Kaschak said one of his priorities as a councillor has been to ensure ward residents have places to go.

"We don't want people sitting behind computers, on phones, and so forth," said Kaschak. "We want them out. We want active people, people walking on this beautiful trail that we have here, the soccer court, the playground, the splash pad, and now the terrific tennis and pickleball courts."

The facilities at Fontainebleau and Goldenwood are open now. The amenities at Captain Wilson Park will be ready by the end of September.
