The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #255 is honouring 50 veterans with links to the community this fall.
Over the weekend, 50 banners featuring veteran's photos were installed on light poles between Glidden Avenue and Thompson Boulevard.
This is the second year the Legion has implemented the banner project. Last year, 25 veterans were honoured.
"We were just going to let it go as wide open as possible, but we have certain limitations, because of insurance we had to cap it," said Marty Flanagan, project coordinator. "We actually fulfilled the cap within two hours when we opened up, it doubled very quickly."
The Legion partnered with the City of Windsor, Enwin Utilities, and the Olde Riverside BIA for the project. Storefronts in the business improvement area will also feature photos of the veterans and some of their stories.
"My overall dream is to have it from the Legion here all the way down to the Cenotaph in front of Metro, where the old Riverside arena used to be, that is my goal," said Flanagan.
The banners will stay up until November 12, 2023.
