Charges pending for lack of smoke alarms after Leamington fire

The Leamington Fire Department is investigating a fire on Wigle Street that broke out early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called to a home, that was renovated into three separate units, around 6:15 a.m.

Leamington Fire Chief Don Williamson said two residents had to be rescued from a window on the second floor because the fire originated at the bottom of their staircase.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Charges are pending as there were no working smoke alarms or CO2 detectors in any unit of the residence.

The fire caused around $15,000 in damage.
