Amherstburg arson causes $4M in damage

Windsor police's Amherstburg detachment has expanded an ongoing arson investigation after another incident was reported over the weekend.

Amherstburg firefighters were called to Cowan Court at around 4 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found two homes in the final stages of construction on fire.

No one was on the premises at the time, and there were no injuries.

Members of the arson unit were called to the scene, and they determined the fire that affected these two homes was started on purpose, causing about $4-million in damage.

This incident came days after another home under construction was the target of suspected arson. That fire broke out on Cowan Court at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday and caused about $50,000 in damage.

Investigators are asking anyone in the immediate area to check dashcam or security camera footage from early Saturday morning and let them know if they see anything unusual.

Anyone with information should call the Windsor police's arson unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
