Local MPPs promoted within provincial government

Two Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP) from Southwestern Ontario have been tapped for new responsibilities within Ontario's government.

The MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington, Trevor Jones, has been appointed Deputy Government House Leader.

Jones said he was honoured to take on the role.

"I am committed to ensuring the smooth operation of our legislature, and effectively communicating the government’s initiatives," he added.

Jones will assist in managing legislative proceedings, coordinating government initiatives, and facilitating communication between members of the legislature. He also remains the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Anthony Leardi has been named Deputy House Whip.

"I am pleased to report this new role to the taxpayers in the Riding of Essex," Leardi said. "I will continue working to deliver the skilled trades jobs, infrastructure and housing investments our region needs."

Leardi's new role will require him to maintain order and decorum within the legislative chamber, ensure the efficient operation of the House, and support the Government Whip in their duties. He will also continue his role as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Mines.

Both MPPs were elected in 2022.
