Firefighters will be out in the community this week sharing fire safety tips.
There will be open houses at all seven fire stations in Windsor and five in Lakeshore from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11.
“Fire Prevention Week serves as an important reminder that fire safety starts in the home,” said Lakeshore Fire Chief Don Williamson. “We are excited to welcome residents to our open houses. There will be an opportunity for the community to engage with our dedicated firefighters, learn essential fire prevention techniques, and reinforce the message that fire safety is a shared responsibility.”
Windsor firefighters and fire prevention officers will also visit local malls and grocery stores to share messages about fire safety.
“Accidents can happen but can be avoided by practising fire safety in the kitchen, starting with staying by the stove, keeping a lid close to slide over a pot in the event of a fire, keeping a clear area around the stove, and avoiding distractions to focus on the task at hand when cooking, said Windsor Fire Chief Stephen Laforet.
Fire truck tours and demonstrations will be at Tecumseh Mall and Devonshire Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
