The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following a fatal collision on Riverside Drive East early Sunday morning.
Just before 1:30 a.m. Windsor police report seeing a Dodge Charger run a red light at the intersection of Park Street and Ouellette Avenue.
According to the SIU, the Charger continued to drive, despite officers trying to stop the vehicle.
"At the intersection of Riverside Drive and Glengarry Avenue, the Charger became involved in a collision with a Chrysler mini-van and a Toyota SUV," a release from the SIU said.
Four people were in the Charger at the time of the crash. One occupant, a 19-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two others were taken to hospital, where a 17-year-old male succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators say an occupant of the Toyota was also taken to hospital, that person's injuries are unconfirmed at this time.
Four investigators, two forensic investigators, and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials, such as police officers, in any incidents that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
